Almost £3,000 has been raised by a group of young lawyers at law firm Sintons through their completion of a 140-mile international cycling challenge.
Over the Bank Holiday weekend, the group of eight trainees and apprentices took on the gruelling Port2Port expedition, which saw them travel from Newcastle to Amsterdam – taking the ferry from the UK and then cycling from Zeebrugge in Belgium to the Netherlands.
The trek was in aid of Daft as a Brush, Sintons’ staff charity, and will play a vital role in helping the firm achieve its £15,000 fundraising target, which will enable the purchase of an ambulance for the much-loved charity.
Daft as a Brush, which Newcastle-based Sintons has adopted for two years, provides staffed custom-made vehicles to offer free transport to and from hospital appointments for chemotherapy and radiotherapy patients. The charity covers in and around Newcastle, North and South Tyneside, Northumberland and Durham.
The group comprised trainees Ed Forshaw, Caitilin Hepworth, Sophie Townes, Liam Anderson and Jay Balmer, alongside solicitor apprentices Nathan Johnson, Leah Greenwell and Saffron Sinclair, and their fundraising of £2,892 so far has exceeded their target of £2,500.
Port2Port is the latest in a series of charity ‘trainee challenges’ to be held at the firm, with previous efforts including the Coast2Coast cycle ride and the Three Peaks Challenge.

“Over the past few years, our trainees have made a number of commendable achievements through their fundraising efforts, and have raised several thousands of pounds in the process too. Their challenges are very ambitious and often pose personal challenges to members within the group, which make their achievements all the more inspiring.
“As well as being important fundraising opportunities, they also prove vital in team building and in strengthening the relationship and dynamic among our trainee and apprentice group. This is something we are keen to encourage at Sintons throughout the firm, and we are delighted to see our young people have again taken it upon themselves to challenge themselves in this way.”
